Recently, the construction site of an open-pit iron ore project in Liaoning Province has been bustling with activity. A fleet of Shantui SE800 mining excavators has been operating at full throttle, working together to rush the project’s deadline, pressing the accelerator button for efficient excavation.

It is reported that this open-pit mine is an important black metallurgical mine in the country, and also a core source of steel ore. The mining area stretches for 5.5 kilometers from south to north, and is 0.4 to 1 kilometer wide east to west, with a total area of 4.6 square kilometers and a total land area of 13.15 square kilometers, making it a massive operation.
At the iron ore mining site, the use of multi-brand equipment for combined construction has led to issues such as non-communicating equipment information and high fuel consumption for some National III standard equipment, which have been factors impeding the efficient progress of the project. Moreover, due to the high hardness and difficulty in mining the iron ore, the requirements for an excavator are extremely high. “After the introduction of the Shantui SE800, it has solved major problems for us. Now, with Shantui’s Kunlun Intelligent Platform, we can integrate engine information from other brands of excavators, which is very convenient. The control is precise, fuel consumption is much lower compared to other brands, and it doubles our work efficiency. We will stick with Shantui for future excavator purchases!”
In addition to the challenges that everyday operations pose for the equipment, the harsh construction environment of the mining area also puts the overall performance of the equipment to a greater test. Thanks to the high-performance configuration of the Shantui SE800, with its “golden core” consisting of a Weichai custom WP17T large-displacement engine and a German Linde hydraulic system, the operational efficiency of the excavator is ensured, allowing it to easily cope with the conditions of the mining area.

For operators, long hours of operation of equipment are inseparable from a comfortable driver’s cabin and simple controls, which are particularly important.
